Guadeloupe welcomes visitors each year eager to discover its beaches, mountains, and Creole culture. Before setting off to this exotic destination, take a few minutes to verify the documents required to cross the border. The rules are straightforward but vary depending on your nationality: French and European citizens don't face the same requirements as Canadians. By familiarizing yourself with these obligations in advance, you'll avoid surprises at the airport and can begin your stay with peace of mind, focused on what truly matters: enjoying the destination.

Traveling to Guadeloupe as a French Citizen

As an overseas French territory, Guadeloupe applies the same entry rules as mainland France for French citizens. Travel with a valid national identity card or a valid passport. No visa is required, regardless of your stay's length, whether it's a vacation, professional trip, or family visit.

However, prioritize using your passport rather than an identity card if you need to transit through another Caribbean island before arriving in Guadeloupe. Keep in mind that certain nearby airports, such as the one on the Dutch side of Saint-Martin, require a passport without exception, even for European travelers. For French minors, ensure each child has their own identity document. If a child travels alone or with only one parent, present a territory exit authorization.

Staying in Guadeloupe as a European Citizen

If you're from the European Union or Switzerland, travel simply with your valid identity card, your passport, or, if applicable, your valid French residence permit. No visa will be required to enter Guadeloupe.

Staying in Guadeloupe as a Canadian Traveler

If you're from Canada, you can stay in Guadeloupe for up to 90 days without needing a visa. However, ensure you present a valid passport covering your entire trip. Also prepare a return or onward flight ticket, as well as proof of sufficient financial means to support yourself during your stay. Regarding health, no specific vaccination is required, but make sure you're up to date with your routine vaccinations before departure.
