Guadeloupe stands out as an excellent destination for family vacations.

With coconut palms, white-sand beaches, tropical gardens, and snorkeling opportunities to explore the Caribbean seabed, Guadeloupe captivates the senses of both adults and children alike.

Organizing a Successful Family Trip to Guadeloupe

Packing for a Trip to Guadeloupe with Children

Benefiting from a tropical climate, the sun of the butterfly island will always accompany you no matter the season. Local temperatures range from 23 to 32°C. Plan to bring lightweight clothing and shoes. However, to prevent mosquito bites and diseases such as dengue fever and chikungunya, make sure to pack long clothing, long-sleeved shirts, child-appropriate mosquito repellent, and/or mosquito nets for strollers and baby beds. To guard against sunburn, bring hats and caps as well as sunscreen. Don't forget swimsuits, small beach toys, and a first-aid kit for added precautions.

Flying to Guadeloupe with Children

Air travel from Paris can last between 9 to 11 hours, which can be quite long for your little ones. Try to book a night flight so they can sleep during the journey. Otherwise, pack small toys or books in your carry-on to keep them entertained during the flight. Note that the time difference is 5 hours in winter and 6 hours in summer.

Getting Around Guadeloupe with Children

To avoid traffic congestion, consider a car rental to make family travel easier. Keep in mind that certain tourist areas like Sainte-Anne can experience heavy traffic. To travel with a baby, bring an ultra-lightweight stroller or a baby carrier suited for steep terrain.

What to Do in Guadeloupe with Children?

Visit Parc des Mamelles

This zoo located in Bouillante in Basses Terres will definitely delight your children. The "Kaz a Tarzan," walkways, slides, and secret passages will captivate them. Together you can discover the park's rich fauna, meeting the famous Raccoon, an emblematic animal of Guadeloupe, Caribbean iguanas, alligator turtles, jaguars, and more. The tropical forest showcases exuberant flora. Elevated walkways allow visitors to observe the canopy.

Try Treetop Adventures at Tapeur

A park suitable for all ages, Tapeur offers more than 5 trails with varying difficulty levels. It is located in Basse-Terre, in the heart of the tropical forest of Pointe Noire. For your safety, several instructors are stationed in the trees.

Play with Parrots at Jardin Botanique Deshaies

What joy to watch your little ones have fun in the aviary of loris and lorikeets (parrots). In this magnificent floral and animal park, your children will also enjoy feeding the koi carps. Flamingos, macaws, Guadeloupe flowers (such as porcelain roses), and waterfalls will make your family vacation truly unforgettable.

The Aquarium in Gosier

Dedicated to the Caribbean seabed, this aquarium presents the richest collection of marine species in the Antilles. With over 80 fish species and 50 coral species to see, it will fascinate your children.

Family Walks and Hikes

The trail to the Crawfish Waterfall offers an easy hike suitable for young children and accessible by stroller. For older kids and teenagers, you can take them on a short walk in northern Basse Terre, toward the small Acomat Waterfall cascading into an emerald pool—a magnificent spot. Teenagers can join you in climbing the slopes of La Soufrière volcano, located in southern Basse Terre. The summit is accessible to families, though the trail is quite steep. The Yellow Baths, natural hot springs with free access in Saint-Claude, will be rewarding after your hike.

Visit Museums and Historical Monuments with Children

Add to your family travel itinerary a visit to the sugar cane museum at the Beauport factory. Once a sugar plantation in Guadeloupe, this site offers your children a ride on a small train where they'll learn how sugar is extracted from cane. A cultural visit to the Cacao House in Pointe Noire will let them appreciate the chocolate flavors of the region through tastings. The Morne-à-l'eau Cemetery with its black and white checkered tombs is also a curiosity not to be missed.

Become Marine Explorers at Cousteau Reserve

Nothing beats a boat excursion and snorkeling in the Cousteau Reserve to enhance your stay in Guadeloupe. It's one of the island's most beautiful diving sites. Children can begin diving from age 8 onward. Why not discover the reserve's underwater richness together? You'll encounter magnificent multicolored fish, sea turtles, and coral bars.

If diving doesn't appeal to you, consider opting for a glass-bottom boat ride to appreciate the local underwater life, then snorkel and swim with fish and turtles using a mask and snorkel.

There are other interesting tourist sites for diving and snorkeling such as Pigeon National Park. Rest assured you'll have fun and delight your children during a trip to Guadeloupe.
