What if you could visit Guadeloupe at its finest? Picture yourself sipping a cocktail with your feet in the water, exploring magnificent landscapes, or wandering through vibrant markets. But to make this experience truly unforgettable, you need to choose the perfect time to go.

When is the right moment to combine ideal weather, affordable rates, and tranquility? Would you like to know how to avoid crowds while enjoying the island's wonders? Here's everything you need to know to plan your dream getaway to Guadeloupe.

Climate in Guadeloupe

Guadeloupe enjoys a pleasant tropical climate year-round, with mild temperatures and high humidity levels. Expect plenty of sunshine and wind, accompanied by occasional showers. The sea temperature remains consistently warm, between 24°C and 30°C, depending on the season. Climate varies by region: the coast is mild and humid, while the peaks of Basse-Terre are cooler and windier.

The island is divided into two seasons: the dry season, from December to April, ideal for vacations, and the rainy season, from June to November, quieter and more tranquil. Each season has its advantages and drawbacks.

Temperatures remain stable throughout the year. During the rainy season (June to November), temperatures range between 22°C at night and 28°C during the day. Expect short but intense showers, especially between August and October, a period prone to hurricanes.

During the dry season (December to April), the heat is more bearable, with temperatures around 19°C at night and 24°C during the day. Humidity is lower and rainfall less frequent.

To avoid rain, favor the west coast, known as the "leeward" side, which receives less rainfall than the east coast. Take advantage of the island's microclimates, where it can be sunny in northern Grande-Terre while it rains in Pointe-à-Pitre. Travel in February or March for the driest months. Avoid the period from July to November, when rainfall can reach up to 200 mm per month.

Which period for which activity?

Diving

This archipelago is a true diver's paradise. Explore the coasts of the Windward side, the northwest of Basse-Terre, or Sec Pâté and discover coral gardens, wrecks, and caves while observing local wildlife. Travel between December and April to enjoy the best diving conditions.

Hiking

Discover a variety of landscapes during your hikes: tropical forests, waterfalls, and mountains are on the agenda. If you have experience, take on the GRG1 trail for an interesting challenge. If you prefer something more relaxed, other itineraries suited to all levels are available. The ideal period to visit is between November and May, when conditions are most favorable.

Water sports

Try different water activities like jet skiing, catamaran sailing, bodyboarding, or kitesurfing. Also venture out on sailing trips or try your hand at fishing to catch sharks, tuna, and dorado. To fully enjoy these activities, travel between November and May.

Wildlife observation

Discover Guadeloupe's nature! Explore its reserves and parks to observe a wide variety of animals such as insects, fish, birds, iguanas, mongooses, and raccoons. Dive into its crystal-clear waters to observe shrimp, lobsters, barracudas, and even lemon sharks. Travel between November and May to make the most of this experience.

Surfing and beaches

If you enjoy relaxing on the beaches while practicing surfing, Guadeloupe offers numerous spots, particularly on the east coast and surrounding islands. However, the best time to enjoy optimal conditions depends on the activity you choose.

For surfing, the period from November to April is ideal as waves are more regular, with favorable sea conditions. As for beaches, they are beautiful year-round. However, the dry season (December to April) is best for avoiding rain and maximizing sunlight. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere and less crowded beaches, the low season (June to November) can be an interesting option, although showers are more frequent. Keep in mind that beaches remain magnificent year-round, but weather can impact the quality of your stay, especially if you prioritize water activities.

Road trip

Guadeloupe's islands are perfectly suited for road trips, with varied landscapes ranging from golden beaches to verdant mountains. However, to make the most of this experience, the ideal period to travel is between December and April, during the dry season. During this time, roads are more accessible, the weather is pleasant, and you can explore the archipelago without the inconvenience of heavy rainfall. High season, though pricier, offers clear skies and pleasant temperatures to discover Guadeloupe.

Conversely, during the rainy season (June to November), although Guadeloupe is less crowded, frequent showers and the risk of cyclones can complicate your travels, especially on coastal roads.

Best period according to your budget

The cost of your stay here varies depending on the period you choose. It is influenced by tourist traffic, school holidays, and weather conditions.

High season High season runs from mid-December to end of March, and mid-July to mid-August. During these periods, airfare prices range between €700 and €1,200 for a round-trip Paris – Pointe-à-Pitre. Car rental prices vary between €25 and €60 per day. Seasonal rentals are also at their peak, with a studio starting from €450 per week and a villa around €1,500.

This is the ideal time to enjoy end-of-year celebrations under the sun or to celebrate Easter at 30°C.

Mid-season Between mid-October and mid-December, as well as in April, prices drop approximately 15% compared to high season. This is an excellent period to enjoy more attractive rates while benefiting from pleasant weather conditions.

Low season From June to September, low season offers interesting reductions on rates. Car rental prices are particularly advantageous, between €10 and €20 per day. A studio rents for around €250 per week and a villa for less than €1,000 per week. Airfare is also more affordable, around €300 for a round-trip Paris – Pointe-à-Pitre.
